(Italy, 1960) Director: Federico Fellini. Screenplay Pier Paolo Pasolini and Brunello Rondi, based on a story by Federico Fellini. Music: Nino Rota. Cast: Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimée, Anita Ekberg, Polidor.
Cinestudio presents a new, restored 35mm print of La Dolce Vita, Federico Fellini’s quintessen- tial and most-cherished masterpiece! The impossibly handsome Marcello Mastroianni plays a journalist who is torn between chasing the decadent pleasures of café society (including the com- pany of the gorgeous Anouk Aimée and Anita Ekberg), and that of a quiet life of intellectual integrity.
Over the course of seven days (or deadly sins), Mastroianni finds only emptiness behind glamour’s glittering façade. Rome has never looked as ravishing as imagined by Fellini, from the opening sequence of a statue of Jesus being transported by helicopter over the ruins of an ancient aquaduct, to Mastroianni and Ekberg’s swooning embrace in the Trevi Fountain. “Fellini and Marcello have taken a moment of discovery and made it immortal.” – Roger Ebert, from his Top Ten Best Films list.
