“Italia In Jazz” is a jazz tribute to timeless Italian standards and original music directed by saxophonist, composer Marco Pignataro.
Marco brings together an All Stars Italian band with European jazz bass legend Riccardo del Fra directly from Paris and pianist extraordinaire Teo Ciavarella from Bologna, Italy; plus Matt Marvuglio on flute and Marcello Pellitteri on drums. Special appearance by the world accordion champion Cory Pesaturo and more invited guests.

Marco Pignataro (sax) BIO
Marco Pignataro is a multi-talented saxophone player, composer and educator from Bologna, Italy . Marco maintains a very active international schedule of concerts, recordings and clinics and he has shared stages with artists such as Eddie Gomez, JoAnne Brakeen, Danilo Pérez, Billy Hart, Jon Faddis, John Patitucci, Ben Street and George Garzone, amongst many others.
Together with Danilo Perez, Marco currently leads the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI), the premiere jazz center of musical creativity at Berklee College of Music in Boston. His latest CD “Sofia’s Heart”, was produced by jazz legend Eddie Gomez and recorded with a stellar group including Gomez and Billy Drummond. Also a member of the Eddie Gomez Quintet, Marco’s compositions and playing is featured in the quintet recently released CD “Per Sempre” for BFM Jazz.
Riccardo del Fra (bass) BIO
Riccardo Del Fra, born in Rome in 1956, living in Paris since the ’80s, is a multi-talented musician : a double bass player, arranger, and composer. Chet Baker, Barney Wilen, Johnny Griffin, Kenny Wheeler are some of the great names in jazz with whom he has worked with.
Riccardo del Fra played alongside Chet Baker for nine years, a collaboration which led to the recording of twelve albums,videos and the movie Chet’s Romance directed by Bertrand Fèvre.
In the 1990s the trombone player and composer Bob Brookmeyer invited him to join his quartet. They toured together and recorded the CD Paris Suite (which won the Prix de l’Academie du Jazz in 1994). In September 2004 Riccardo Del Fra was named head of the department of Jazz and Improvised Music at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. In 2003, Riccardo del Fra was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Minister of Culture and Communication.
